Dolphin and Whale Watching in Mirissa

Sri Lanka is one of the few places where giants of the Earth meet the giants of the ocean and is an ideal place to meet the whales, the gentle giants of the ocean.

Many whale species migrate across the globe passing waters of the Indian Ocean around Sri Lanka and a one-hour journey towards the sea brings you face to face with a large number of Cetaceans including whales, dolphins, and porpoise heading to warm waters to feed, breed and raise the young.

At Mirissa, you will meet the Blue Whales swimming next to pods of Sperm Whales, Short-finned Pilot Whales, Killer Whales, Fin Whales, Melon-headed Whales with Spinner Dolphins and Bottlenose Dolphins.

While Melon-headed Whales, Spinner and Bottlenose Dolphins can be seen quite close to the shore in relatively shallow waters, others tend to inhabit deeper waters and a six-hour cruise along the Southwest coast of Sri Lanka will take you to the heartland of marine mammals frolicking among the waves of Indian Ocean.
